How to get apostille for Chennai/ Tamil Nadu issued documents?

 

There are 2 Ways of getting an apostille for a any document.

  1. Through State attetstation (Slower process)
  2. Through Sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Attestation (Faster Process)

Both the processes are valid. 
With state attestation all the educational documents issued in Chennai/Tamil nadu will go through HRD attestation for non educational documents such as marriage or birth will go through State Home department. These govt bodies HRD & Home department follow a strict verification rule thats why it take time to get these seal. It will take nealy 4 weeks to get these seals.

With Sub Divisional Magistrate attestation Your documents Educational or non educational will first pass through Notary then Sub divisional Magistrate and later with Ministry of External affairs.
This is a quicker process time taken varies between 4 days to 14 days.

All the apostille regardless of the process State or SDM will have 6 months validity.
If your apostille is older than 6 months then you need to consult the consulate of the travelling country whether it requires new apostille or not. 

Which Apostille is good for Chennai/ Tamil Nadu Issued documents.

It depends on the Country you are travelling and time and money contrain you have.
If you are travelling to Austria and  Itally it is always advised to go for State authentication rather than SDM. If you are travelling to other Hague countries other than Italy and austria you can go for SDM authentication. 
If you have lot of time and money you can go for State authentication regardless of the country you are travelling. 
If you are in different city than the city that the document is issued we would suggest you to go for SDM authentication since State authentication require you to visit the office multiple times.
